How To Develop Concentration
Self Development Tips
A focused mind is a valuable asset. Those with a focused mind perform faster and with higher precision. This in turn leads to better test-performance and higher grades.
While some people say that it’s an inborn skill, I say that it can be developed by following some simple steps.
Many participants tell me that they get distracted while doing Listening / Reading tests. Their mind wanders and it takes time to bring back the focus.
Here are a few exercises you can do to develop focus
– Close Your Eyes For 30 Seconds And Focus On Your Breath
I learnt this trick from one of my top performers. He finally got into John Hopkins University, one of the IVY Leagues.
Give Some Warm Up To Your Brain –
Move From Scatter Focus To Hyper Focus
– Selective Attention – Select The Content Relevant To Answer The Question In Hand And Forget Everything Else
– Learn Paraphrasing – Answers In Listening And Reading Are Not Direct. The examiners change the words
– Through trial-and-error find the strategy that works for you. Then refine it to further develop it.
– Remember – Concentration is like a muscle. The more you exercise it, the better it gets.
Set Incremental Targets / Goals.
Be patient with yourself, do not expect a miraculous change in your focus in one day. Let it grow step by step. Remember even if you improve by 1 percent everyday, you will e 37 times better in one year.
